Our national debt now tops $31 trillion – about $246,867 per American taxpayer. Any increases to the debt limit this year must be tied to concrete actions to reform the federal budget, reduce spending, and pay down the debt.
This is the only responsible path forward.
Every meaningful budget reform of the last thirty years has been tied to a debt ceiling hike and this time should be no different. Even President Obama signed two debt limit hikes that were tied to budget reform and spending cuts.
